Guilford Success Network Members are invited to apply to the Cone Health Medical Group Certified Medical Assisting (CMA) Academy

Guilford Success Network is pleased to present the opportunity to GSN Members to apply to become a Certified Medical Assistant by taking part in an intensive training program with Cone Health Medical Group. This is a paid opportunity to become a Certified Medical Assistant!

If you have experience working in healthcare or otherwise have an interest in working in healthcare, consider applying for the CMA Academy!

Details

When you apply to the CMA Academy, you are applying for a two-part experience. The internship includes job shadowing ahead of committing to the rest of the CMA Academy, which will prepare you to complete the 

Internship

  • The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Internship is held full-time (8a – 5p) Monday through Friday (June 2 – July 10, 2025) prior to beginning the CMA Academy.
  • Interns will begin as Cone Health employees effective June 1, 2025 and receive $18/hour in pay.
  • The internship will include orientation sessions to Cone Health and the Cone Health Medical Group, Epic software and Customer Service training, and an introduction to the CMA Academy.
  • Interns will practice administrative functions, hone workplace success skills, and receive their First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • A large portion of the internship will include job shadowing in the medical practices allowing exposure to specialty and primary care, front desk operations, and clinical areas.
  • If interns decide against continuing into the CMA Academy, they must declare their intention by June 30, 2025 to 1) pursue another position at Cone Health or 2) discontinue employment at Cone Health.
  • Interns will have a break on July 3-4, and the CMA Academy will begin on July 13, 2025.

Academy

This is an eight-month course designed to train and prepare students to sit for the Certified Medical Assisting Exam. Throughout this course you will cover all aspects of medical assisting which include office procedures, insurance, patient care, medical terminology, ethics, anatomy and physiology,
dosage calculations, pathophysiology, psychology, clinical skills, and testing.

How to apply (and how your GSN Coordinator is a part of CMA Academy)

  • Tell your GSN Coordinator that you want to apply.
  • Review the online applicationCoaches help members with formulating and writing their application form answers (intensive writing help may be needed)
  • Conduct mock interviews with staff (3 or more per candidate, with feedback conversations in between)
  • Conduct mock interviews with healthcare professionals as volunteers, debrief afterward with volunteer and candidate
  • Coaches or previous employment managers (member’s choice) fill out Cone recommendation form (“Manager Application”)
  • First Round Applications: Submit resume, online application form (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Community25), and manager application/recommendation via email to king@conehealth.com by 5:00 pm March 31, 2025.
  • Cone acknowledges to Sarah receipt of all UWGG member first round applications. Sarah relays to FSCs/GSN.
  • Cone acknowledges to Baylee Smith all Goodwill client first round applications.
  • Cone selects members to interview, notifies Sarah and Baylee.
  • Sarah hands over communication to designated staff at FSCs/GSN for scheduling interviews with the members.
  • Cone interviews members within 1 to 3 weeks after receiving their applications.
  • Members who apply must turn in proof of all required immunizations by [date TBD].
